School Time

They say a picture's worth a thousand words, but I'm not quite sure what this one is saying!

Well school has been in full swing for 2 weeks now. Every week seems to get busier and busier. Both kids decided they wanted to do karate this year, so a few weeks ago I signed them both up. Bri has decided to do karate over dance this year, but I suspect she is really missing her dance sometimes. She will get to karate and will dance around the gym floor while waiting for the class to begin. She is enjoying karate though. Alex is a 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Dae, but this karate is a different form and Alex wanted to do this form as they use weaponry, which he thinks will be "cool". He must like it because he had to start over completely as a white belt.

A couple of weeks ago Alex tried out scuba diving, which he described as "magical". He thought that was really fun and would like to add getting certified to our calendar. The cost to get certified is $350.00, and then there is the equipment. I always thought it would be a fun hobby, but just not one we can afford.

Friday we took a trip to Sciquest to check out an exhibit about Mouth Power. We were disappointed in it, but we enjoyed Sciquest! We like to go to Sciquest a few times a year because they have some different things than McWane does. As members of McWane we can get into Sciquest, which is only 1 floor, small in comparison to McWane, and we can visit the Space and Rocket Center too. So of course we usually go there as well. This trip was no different, except that we told a lot of our homeschooling buddies in Huntsville that we were coming and they all met us at Sciquest. The kids hung out and played and the mom's talked. I tried to get pictures, but I could only get a couple as the kids would not stand still. After Sciquest Bri went with Deb, Dae and the Lindelow family to the Big Spring International Park to feed the ducks and play in the spring. Alex, Dalton, and I went over to the Space and Rocket Center, of course they wanted to ride the rides as we have seen the exhibits so many times before. They landed a plane, rode the G-Force, and tried to do the Space Shot, but they needed 600 lbs of people and together they only had about 200 lbs, so that was a disappointment for them. Oh well, it was still fun. After we finished there we met up with the others at the park. From there the Lindelow's took us to the Bandito Burrito Co. for dinner. This was a neat place to eat, its sort of a Tex-Mex Yuppie/Hippy hangout. They had things like fish tacos and a lot of vegan dishes. It was good, but I could not bring myself to try fish tacos even though Kristen kept telling me how good they were. After dinner we had to tell our friends good-bye and head back home. On the way we found a great deal on gas of $3.35 a gallon so of course we had to fill up. Sad when you think $3.35 is a good price for gas though. When we finally arrived home Eddie was happy to see us and so was Sugar. We had left around 9 a.m. and did not return home until 10 p.m., so I guess they thought we got lost. We had a really great time and the Lindelow's were excellent hosts for the day!

Well time to get this week rolling. I have okra to cut, and lessons to be done before karate tonight. This week kicks off Chemistry labs and Art Appreciation. Then there is a doctor's visit and maybe a trip to Spring Valley Beach for Homeschooler's Day, it will just depend on how the week goes as to if we actually make that Friday.
